YOUTH & WOMEN ENTREPRENREURSHIP
Globalization and access to worldwide markets has enabled streams of innovative and disruptive business ideas, models and practices, allowing Youth & Women entrepreneurs to embrace and benefit from opportunity corridors for both global investment and growth opportunities. At the heart of knowledge dissemination, innovation and fast expansion models are startups and sme's riding the waves of change and facing challenges, especially in early stages.
The UN Economic and Social Committee for Asia and the Pacific Sustainable Business Network (UN ESBN) Taskforce on Youth & Women Entrepreneurship, promotes business leapfrogging and economic growth of entrepreneurs from ESCAP member states through the creation and expansion of OCs, connecting local early-stage SME’s and enterprises with global business, capital and services and collaborating with a variety of programs and initiatives that foster innovation, business opportunities, gender equality, environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness such as entrepreneurial cross-geography/discipline competitions, capacity building programs, public-private sector initiatives and digital platforms for the benefit of the current and upcoming generations of young entrepreneurs.
The Taskforce is comprised of recognized experts in relevant areas; its values, scope and modalities are intrinsically aligned with The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as the overarching value system of ESBN, with a special focus on SDGs Goal 4 Quality education, Goal 5 Gender equality, Goal 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Goal 17 Partnership for the goals. It also aligns with UNESCAP Division Projects in the areas of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, Inequality and Leaving No One Behind, Population and Development, Social Inclusion, Youth Empowerment, Technology & Innovation, Business & Investment and Trade Policy.
